Merritt Adams was used to taking care of herself.
With her mother's selfish abandonment and her father's shocking suicide, she is convinced that nobody will ever stick around for long. However, after she is mysteriously rescued from a fiery crash, Merritt needs to learn how to accept help, and love - even when it comes from an unexpected source. Trying to create a new life for herself will be difficult, and so will resisting the charms of someone she swore she would never show interest in.
In addition to the buzz surrounding Merritt's tragic headlines, everyone is talking about the charismatic Chase Brooks' return home after spending two years in California aspiring to become a rock star. What people don't know is the real reason why he had to leave his dreams behind. Saddened by his return, Chase is even more saddened to see how broken and alone his childhood classmate, Merritt, is.
Two sad souls could be good for each other, couldn't they? Merritt isn't so sure... and after she finds out who pulled her from the mangled car that night, her life will be changed forever.
I loved this book! The character development was so precise, I felt as if I knew each person. The story was heartbreaking at times, yet it gave me a sense of hope for what life can become when love and self acceptance are realized. The main character developed so beautifully and learned to let love in.... a lesson from which we can all learn .
I'm glad I waited to read this book until I had an entire day to devote to reading, because once I started reading it, I was hooked. To say I couldn't put it down is an understatement. One of the best reads I have found in awhile. I often start a book and rarely finish it, coming back to it weeks or months later, if at all. This book was different, it was like binge watching the best show on TV, each chapter pulls you in more and more (if I wasn't pregnant I wouldn't have even stopped to eat while reading it!) The author does a flawless job of creating characters that you just can't get enough of! I'm eagerly awaiting the next book from this author!
Undeniably a riveting, touching and emotional romance/drama you will want to read! Every aspect of this story draws you in and leaves you wanting to know more. Hard to put down, I found myself guessing what will happen next after each chapter. The author cleverly dances around a few major situations that the main character, Merritt, faces. She leads you through each one as though you are right there feeling every character's emotions. I can't wait to read more from this author!
I kind of sat on writing this review for a few days. I promise I didn't mean to. I loved this book. I loved that it wasn't a cookie cutter plot. I appreciated that the main character's were flawed. It was refreshing to read a story where I could personally connect with the characters. This was beyond a great debut novel for new author Kristen Granata. To be honest, cliff hangers make me itch because I'm so impatient and usually don't want to wait for the next book to come out, but Kristen you have me hooked. Hurry up and write the next one so I can get my next fix!
Author Kristen Granata had me enveloped in this captivating story from page one through the very last page. With every chapter, I grew more and more desperately curious to know how the characters' stories would ultimately unfold. Each chapter flawlessly written and building my anticipation for the next, I now finding myself awaiting Kristen's next work of literary art! This is a book you won't want to put down!!!!
If 10 stars was possibility, it definitely deserve it. This book was fascinating, I starting reading and read the first 8 chapters in my first sitting. The author had an extraordinary ability to keep the reader always wanting to read more & more cause you were so excited to find out what happens next. I enjoyed this book. HANDS DOWN...its a great read. Excited to see if the story continues.
